Europe’s Largest Cruise Terminal Officially Opens in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
The largest cruise terminal in Europe, operated by Global Ports Holding (GPH), the world’s largest Cruise port operator, and developed in partnership with local partner SEPCAN, has been inaugurated, marking a new milestone for Gran Canaria and further consolidating its position as a key destination in international cruise tourism.
The innovative terminal building offers 14,000 square meters distributed across two levels. It features three boarding bridges, delivered by Milan Port Equipment through GPH’s alliance with Talleres Milan, and has the operational capacity to accommodate up to four cruise ships simultaneously. Its layout ensures smooth and efficient operations for both transit calls and homeport ships, projecting a modern and welcoming image of the island.
The terminal is part of a 40 million euros investment plan, aimed at modernizing cruise terminals in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote. The project was constructed by Satocán following the latest sustainability and innovation standards, including the use of recycled and eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient systems, solar power solutions, and responsible waste management, making the terminal a reference model for sustainable port infrastructure in Europe.
Since taking over operations in 2022, cruise traffic across the three ports, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura, has grown from 1.4 million to over 2 million passengers by 2025. With the completion of the new terminals, the ports are well positioned to unlock the next phase of cruise growth.
Close collaboration with the Port Authority of Las Palmas has ensured the adaptation and improvement of surrounding areas, guaranteeing smooth, safe, and comfortable arrivals and departures for passengers.
The inauguration ceremony brought together local and regional authorities, security forces, business leaders, and members of the port community. The event was hosted as a mid-afternoon cocktail reception at the terminal, where guests enjoyed a refined atmosphere complemented by soft music.
During the ceremony, institutional representatives and project stakeholders highlighted the strategic importance of the terminal and its positive economic impact on the city, including increased cruise calls supporting local commerce, hospitality, catering, and service sectors.

Looking ahead, the new terminal will host Seatrade Cruise Med this September, showcasing Las Palmas and the Canary Islands to the global cruise community and strengthening its role within the global cruise market.
